Malcolm X & Dr. Betty Shahbaz Day - May 19, 2025
Launching Malcolm X Day 2025 - Join US
As we approach what would have been Malcolm X’s 100th birthday, we find ourselves at a crucial moment in history. Malcolm X was more than an activist—he was a global Muslim leader, a fearless truth-teller, and a man of transformation. Yet, while his name is widely recognized, his true legacy is often misrepresented, misunderstood, or ignored in our schools.
This is why we are launching the first-ever Malcolm X Day at Islamic Schools, a Global Malcolm X Book Club, and an in-depth curriculum on Malcolm X & Dr. Betty Shabazz for students.
Through this initiative of the School of the Ummah, we aim to ensure that every child in Islamic schools and beyond learns about the powerful story of Malcolm X—a story of resilience, faith, and justice. We will equip teachers, parents, and schools with the resources they need to bring Malcolm’s journey and the profound contributions of Dr. Betty Shabazz into their classrooms.
This will be the first major curriculum project from the School of the Ummah, which we plan on building out with full curriculum resources in different areas long term ranging from Islamic mindullness, dhikr and meditation, to a major history textbook with Imam Zaid Shakir on the Spread of Islam. We hope to build the project out in a similar way as the Zinn Education Project, as a website with open source access to key curricula for Islamic Schools and public schools teaching about Islam and Muslims around the world.
